Fun Facts

• There are over 37 research vessels in the IEP fleet, including the 60 foot R/V Sentinel (DWR).
• Started in 1959, the Summer Townet Survey is the longest running IEP monitoring program.
• IEP has 18 long term monitoring programs currently taking place in the Bay-Delta.
• The IEP Environmental Monitoring Program collects hundreds of thousands of fish per year in an effort to track the abundance of Delta Smelt, Striped Bass, Sturgeon and other fish species throughout the Estuary.
• The IEP zooplankton surveys count and identify over 50 different species of invertebrates during sampling, which numbers in the tens of millions of individuals.
• The largest white sturgeon caught by IEP was approximately 9 feet long!
• IEP member agencies monitor water quality on a continuous basis at 80 sites across the Estuary.
