Greetings IEP Community Members,

We are happy to announce the release of the 2024 Volume 43 IEP Newsletter with issues 1 & 2. There is no issue 3 for Volume 43.

You can find these two current issues as well as previous IEP newsletters on the IEP Newsletter page and in the IEP library.

Call for Articles

As a reminder, we also have an open call for articles for 2026 Volume 45, Issue 2. Submissions are due no later than June 15 and should be sent to iep@wildlife.ca.gov.

Refer to our publication guidelines for more information on submitting materials. We are looking to receive a diverse set of article types that keep the community informed not only on the monitoring and research being conducted in the estuary but also short notes on field observations. If you are seeing any changes in the estuary with the number, size, and type of species caught or if you collected a new species that you've never caught before, or are seeing changes in the habitat, (e.g., physical, chemical, or quality changes), we would like to read about your observations!

IEP is now accepting articles for the 2026 Volume 45, Issue 2 IEP Newsletter.

The submission deadline is June 15, 2026. Materials as well as questions should be sent to iep@wildlife.ca.gov.

What is the Newsletter

The IEP Newsletter is a triannual product of the Interagency Ecological Program that publishes perspectives on our Program and community. It is a forum for resource managers, scientists, and the public to learn about recent important programmatic and scientific topics from across the San Francisco Estuary. Articles are intended for rapid communication and are not peer reviewed. Thus, primary research results shared in the newsletter should be considered preliminary and interpreted with caution.

Article Types

There are five types of submissions acceptable for the newsletter:

  • Opinion, Letter, or Essay
  • Data Report
  • Research Article
  • Research Note
  • Review Article

Did you notice something odd happening in the Delta when out surveying? Do you have an opinion on a management or research related topic or do you have a data publication that may be of use to others or be useful to meet reporting mandates? Please share it with the community.

Artwork

Do you like to take photos or draw? Do you or your children have artwork that you would like to share and display in the IEP Newsletter? If so, send an email to iep@wildlife.ca.gov and we can provide information on how to get your contribution included in the newsletter.

Submission Requirements

We encourage all prospective authors to carefully review the resources on the IEP Publications Guidelines page prior to submitting their materials.

These resources include:

  • IEP Publication Policy
  • Quick Guide for Creating Web Accessible Documents
  • Guide to Authors: Preparing and submitting your article for publication in the newsletter
  • Photo Use Agreement for artwork (photos or images) to be included in the newsletter

Questions

Contact us at iep@wildlife.ca.gov if you have any questions related to submitting an article or photo/drawing for consideration.
