Supervisory Fish Biologist with U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (Lodi Office)

The Lodi Fish and Wildlife Office (LFWO) is excited to announce an employment opportunity in the Data Management and Special Studies Program.

For those who possess knowledge of the principles, concepts, and theories in fishery biology and related disciplines, the Supervisory GS-11 Biologist position offers excellent opportunities for an ambitious mid-career scientist to further their career path.

Key duties for this position are:

  • Serves as the office's Data Management Supervisor. Primary responsibility is to ensure that adequate resources are available to support data management of multiple large aquatic monitoring programs in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. Duties include ensuring that (1) Data Stewards, Custodians, and Producers follow applicable policies and practices, (2) Data are covered under a data management plan, (3) Data meets quality, privacy, and other standards, and (4) Metadata are comprehensive and high quality.
  • Serves as the office's Special Studies Supervisor. Primary responsibility is supporting non-supervisory biologists who lead studies aimed at improving the scope and quality of fish and water quality monitoring operations in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta.

The LFWO is the US Fish and Wildlife Service's largest Fish and Aquatic Conservation office and consists of programs focused on Delta fish and habitat monitoring and anadromous fish restoration.

The mission of the LFWO is “to promote native species and self-sustaining ecosystems through collaborative leadership in restoration, research, and monitoring of fishes of the Central Valley, California, and support personal development and professionalism through a culture of mentoring, collegiality, and equity.”

Lodi is located approximately 35 miles south of Sacramento, CA. The region is rich in agricultural history and Lodi has become one of California's highest-rated wine regions. The Mokelumne River flows along the edge of town, forms Lodi Lake, and offers an abundance of outdoor recreation activities. Lodi is within two hours of Central California beaches and the Sierra Nevada Mountain range. Lodi offers a small-town atmosphere yet is close to the metropolitan areas of San Francisco and Sacramento.
