Job Description and Duties:

The YBFMP conducts long-term monitoring of lower trophic levels, juvenile and adult fishes, hydrology, and water quality parameters in the Yolo Bypass; these data are critical for the management of Delta Smelt, Longfin Smelt, and winter-run Chinook Salmon and to measure success of restoration actions. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the data collection, reduction, analysis, management, and reporting for the YBFMP is fulfilled, and that related scientific investigations are conducted in response to monitoring findings, the needs of management, and in support of State Water Project operations, IEP, Incidental Take Permits, and Biological Opinions. The incumbent will plan, organize, evaluate, and direct Aquatic Ecology Unit staff and activities, including administrative tasks such as preparation of annual budgets, management of internal and external contracts, and development and management of resource agreements necessary to implement the YBFMP and other essential DWR programs. The incumbent should have a background in aquatic ecology (with knowledge of Delta Smelt, Longfin Smelt, and Chinook Salmon ecology), the Bay-Delta ecosystem, floodplain ecology, and fish management, monitoring, and conservation and will represent DWR on the IEP Science Management Team and other Project Work Teams as needed. The incumbent will act as a technical resource for DWR staff, IEP partners, and other government agencies.
