Job Description and Duties
This position offers a unique and rewarding opportunity to lead a team dedicated to supporting mandated monitoring programs, quality assurance/quality control processes, data management initiatives, and special studies. As the Manager of the Continuous Environmental Monitoring Unit, the unit supervisor will oversee the implementation of critical environmental monitoring programs and ensuring compliance with water quality mandates in the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta. In this leadership role, the unit supervisor will be responsible for planning, organizing, and evaluating the activities of a highly skilled and collaborative team. The incumbent will coordinate field efforts to monitor the ecological impacts of water project operations, ensure adherence to Bay-Delta water quality objectives, and respond to ecological events such as droughts. Responsibilities will include ensuring that all data generated is scientifically valid, legally defensible, and aligned with the reporting requirements of mandates such as D-1485, D-1641, and Senate Bill 1070. As a technical expert in water quality science and monitoring, the incumbent will provide guidance and expertise to DWR staff and other state and federal partners. The supervisor’s role will include participating in project work teams, representing the branch at meetings, workshops, and hearings, and contributing to the discussion of research findings and adaptive management strategies.
