Greetings IEP Community Members,

Registration for the IEP Annual Workshop opens February 3, 2025 at 6:00 a.m. The workshop will be a hybrid event held March 4-6, 2025 in the California Natural Resources Agency building auditorium. Participants can come in person or watch remotely.

The Program, Abstract Book, and Registration links are located on the IEP Annual Workshop page.

Use the "EventBrite Registration" button to attend in-person to see the live presentations in the auditorium.

Use the "ZOOM Registration" button to watch the presentations remotely.

Volunteers Needed!

We still need volunteers to assist as microphone runners and timekeepers in the auditorium, and monitor the 2nd floor overflow room next to the posters. Shifts are half-day, and volunteers will still be able to see and hear the presentations. Interested?

Judges Needed!

Every year at the workshop we give an award to an early career scientist with the Best Presentation and Best Poster. Volunteer judges are needed to evaluate candidate presentations and posters.

Tips and Ideas on How to Prepare Scientific Presentations and Posters

Don’t forget IEP has a short training course available on February 7, 2025 from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. to provide information on how to prepare an amazing presentation or poster. The training is free and 100% remote.

Registration open for the IEP Workshop Early Career Luncheon

Are you relatively new to the San Francisco Bay-Delta’s science, management, and conservation community? Would you like to learn more about the key issues and career pathways? Or are you willing to share your experiences and advice with newer members of the community? If so, then the IEP Workshop’s Early Career Luncheon is a great place to start!

The Early Career Luncheon connects new and early career students and professionals with researchers, managers, and practitioners who are more familiar with the issues, priorities, and educational and professional opportunities within the Bay-Delta.

If you are interested in participating as a mentor or mentee, check out the details below and use the link to register by January 24, 2025!

Announcement of the 2025 IEP workshop and opening of registration on February 3, 2025.

Greetings IEP Community Members,

The 2025 IEP Annual Workshop a free, hybrid event and will be held March 4-6, 2025 at the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) Headquarters (715 P Street, Sacramento) in the 1st floor auditorium. Registration opens February 3rd. Currently, registration is open for other activities such as a training course on developing presentations and posters, the Early Career Scientist Luncheon, Volunteers and Judges for the workshop. Presentation & Poster Training Course

Are you giving your first IEP workshop presentation? Not sure how to get your message across clearly? Does the idea of public speaking make you nervous? Well, the IEP workshop planning committee is here to help! We are hosting a virtual training on preparing good presentations and scientific posters for a variety of audiences.
We will highlight:
  • Creating a clear story
  • How to tailor your message for different audiences
  • Best practices for creating clear power point slides
  • Tips and tricks for increasing your confidence in public speaking situations
  • The #BetterPoster layout to better engage your audience

The course is 100% remote, conducted via MS TEAMS. It is free and open to anyone who is interested!

Early Career Scientist Mentor Luncheon

Are you interested in attending the Early Career Scientist Mentor Luncheon? Registration is now open for Mentors and Mentees! Seating is limited, so make sure to register before January 24!

The Early Career Luncheon connects new and early career students and professionals with the San Francisco Bay-Delta’s community of researchers, managers, and practitioners who are more familiar with the issues, priorities, and professional opportunities. Seating is limited to a total of 30 participants (mentors and mentees, combined).

Workshop Volunteers Needed!

Volunteers are the backbone of the IEP Workshop that allow it to run efficiently and smoothly. We need mic runners, timekeepers, an overflow room monitor, and backups. Are you interested in volunteering? Fill out the Volunteer Registration Form.

Early Career Award Judges

Volunteer judges are needed to evaluate the presentations and posters of participating early career candidates. Registration opens in February. If interested or if you have questions, contact the Awards Chair, Ted Flynn (Ted.Flynn@water.ca.gov).

Abstract Submission Deadline Extended to Monday, November 18!

The Annual IEP Workshop will be held March 4-6, 2025 at the California Natural Resources Headquarters building in Sacramento. The workshop will be a free, hybrid event available for both in-person and remote attendees. Workshop registration will open in early February 2025.

Abstract Submissions

We are now accepting abstract submissions. Participants wishing to present must submit an abstract (300 words or less) summarizing their contribution. We welcome submissions from all IEP member agencies, affiliates, and other stakeholders at all career levels, and preliminary work is welcome!

Participants are limited to one abstract as presenting author but may be a contributing author on any number of others.

Abstracts will be selected based on:

  • Relevance. Priority will be given to abstracts aligning with the IEP Science Strategy or that were derived from IEP workplan elements.
  • Originality. Priority will be given to abstracts that have not been presented elsewhere, and to speakers who did not present at the 2024 IEP workshop.
  • Collaboration. Priority will be given to abstracts that include collaborative work between two or more agencies or groups.
  • Career stage. Preference will be given to presentations given by early career scientists, students, and scientific aides.
  • Scientific merit. Preference will be given to abstracts including novel ideas and studies with results that will be ready by the time of the workshop.
